Haring, a Pennsylvania native, called himself a street artist and frequently worked in dance clubs or in his studio against a background of pop music - he was an artist who was able to visualize sound. At the time of his early death, Haring had become internationally celebrated for his whimsical, exuberant, paintings and sculptures that employ the figure to express action, mood and human relationships.
