William McVey and his Work

William McVey (1905-1995)

A graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art and for fourteen years head of its sculpture department, McVey is widely regarded as one of the leading American figurative sculptors of his generation . He left a legacy of distinguished portraits in stone and bronze of many leading public personalities: among others, Archbishop John Carroll, John D. Rockefeller, Winston Churchill and Hart Crane.
