Athena Tacha and her Work

Athena Tacha (1936- )

A native of Larissa, Greece, with a doctorate from the Sorbonne, Tacha began her career as an art historian with scholarly studies of Rodin and Brancusi. She received an M.A. from Oberlin College and subsequently became a curator at the Allen Art Museum. In 1973, after gaining wide recognition as an artist including First Sculpture Prize three times at the Cleveland May Show, she began to teach sculpture as Professor of Art at Oberlin. Her large-scale outdoor works have won more than a dozen national competitions and commissions. In 1990 she was awarded an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree from the College of Wooster.
